St. Boniface School’s multi-age approach to math truly benefits learners of all types. Students are placed in flexible groups at their ability level and progress at a pace that best promotes learning. Math is taught from a pre-school level through high school level. Many eighth grade students are able to test out of their high school Algebra 1 course. Manipulatives and hands-on learning are promoted daily in math courses. Organization, neatness and responsibility are taught to students through their learning of math. Students are given high expectations in math and get the support they need to meet those expectations.
Reading, writing, science, social studies and critical thinking are all fused into the math curriculum. Real life problem solving is used often to teach various math concepts. Students are encouraged not only to know how to complete math problems correctly, but also to write, explain and defend their solutions. Math games are often used to reinforce and teach concepts, as well as to keep math engaging and fun. Students learn to be self-motivated and enjoy math.
