Science The St. Boniface School Science curriculum is rigorous and exciting! A large emphasis is placed on experiential learning. Every opportunity is made for lab or field experiences to meet the needs of each individual student. Students work with lab partners to complete these investigations. The scientific method is regularly practiced through their study of many scientific concepts. Throughout the years science class will cover chemistry, botany, ecology, geology, physics, and biology. St. Boniface middle school students have access to a comprehensive collection of lab equipment and their very own science lab. Technology is fully integrated and all students learn how to type lab reports and graph their data on the computer. A unique aspect to science courses at St. Boniface is the use of Nature Center that is conveniently located directly across the street. Every year students visit the Nature Center multiple times to complete observations, scientific investigations and data collection. That research is brought back to the classroom for further analysis and concluding. We often ask the big four questions during any science unit: “how?” “should?” “why?” and “what if?” Promoting critical thinking and deep connections is a large focus of our science. The multi-age aspect to science allows us to individualize the instructions for all learners and promote the concepts as a whole unit rather than unique to a grade. With our focus on experiential learning and critical thinking, the science curriculum at St. Boniface School creates lifelong scientists in every student. |
